The Summer English Language Studies office is located in 119 Wheeler Hall(link is external).

The SELS office is open during July and August, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Feel free to stop by during open hours with questions, concerns, or company.

Summer ESL Certificates of Completion

We are quickly approaching the end of the SELS classes! If you are interested in receiving a certificate of completion for an ESL W3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 course, please carefully read the instructions below.

Certificates will be printed with your preferred name and a gold UC Berkeley seal. These certificates confirm the successful completion of the ESL W3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 courses.

CW 9M Introduction to the US Constitution: Cross-cultural Conversations

Designed for visiting and matriculated Berkeley students, this class introduces not only the substance of the U.S. Constitution but also to its legal and cultural significance. This course aims to strengthen students’ English communication skills through reading, viewing, discussing, and writing about a variety of texts. For international students entering an LL.M. program, the class provides a general level of preparation. For others, the course provides a chance to learn more about the documents and values that underlie U.S. law, history, and society.
