A native of Chicago, Caroline Cole has earned a B.A. in English and Rhetoric, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Ph.D. in Writing Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has taught courses in introductory and advanced composition, business communication, technical writing, desktop publishing, and expository writing with an emphasis in Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines.
In 1997, she joined the faculty of College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley. Two years later, she created, launched, and currently teaches the first undergraduate professional writing course open to students across campus (College Writing 151: Introduction to the Principles of Professional Communication); it's advanced version, CW152, was launched in 2013. She has also taught oral and written communication for the Walter A. Haas School of Business, and she has helped design WAC/WID-oriented courses in and beyond College Writing to help students in all disciplines develop their communication.
In addition to her work on campus, she develops and leads workshops and seminars in professional communication and provides consulting services for academic and industry professionals.
