Program Overview

Our unique six- and three-week programs offer aspiring, practicing, and experienced creative writers a community in which to create and connect. All interested students are welcome! You do not need to be a Berkeley student to enroll.

Our program offers daily creative writing classes in short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. There are two writing requirements that students must satisfy to graduate: Entry-Level Writing, and Reading & Composition.

An applied linguist, Michelle (Winn) Baptiste has taught in College Writing Programs at UC Berkeley since 2002. She specializes in teaching diverse classes of developing writers. Her passion is supporting students to cultivate their own unique voices -- a repertoire of voices they can access as they write across genres. She enjoys including interviews and other hands-on research in her classes.
