There are two writing requirements that students must satisfy to graduate. Both must be fulfilled by the end of the sophomore year.

The Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) enables students to demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing at the college entry level.
The University upholds a code of student conduct and the College Writing Programs supports that code through its position on plagiarism and acts of academic dishonesty and conventions for ethical citation.
