In this one-unit workshop, we will focus on strengthening skills in workshopping, selecting and publicly performing your creative writing. Composing, editing, and revising your works will also be an important emphasis. As a class focused on craft across genres, we will read a variety of strategies by published story writers, essayists, poets and playwrights. We will study performances by established and emerging artists, and develop a sustainable in-person and online writing community that you can rely on long after the three-week summer intensive has ended.
This course is offered in Session F (July 6-July 23, 2021).
Open to all creative genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, screenwriting, oratory, etc.), this class will offer the opportunity for students to revise a previously written work under the mentorship of the instructor. Along with one-on-one meetings and readings, lectures, and exercises tailored to their interests, students will also practice effective strategies for presenting their writing to an audience, culminating in a final live reading and celebration of their work. Please note: the entire course will be conducted asynchronously.
