This year a large number of current and former College Writing creative writing students won Cal literary prizes.

Derrick Tao, formerly in College Writing 105 and 110, has recently published a research letter in the Journal of the American Medical Association. "Financial Conflicts of Interest among Hemotologist-Oncologists on Twitter" was published January 17, 2017 in JAMA Internal Medicine.
December 7, 2016
On Monday, December 5, over 150 College Writing R4B students gave short talks about their final research projects for the semester to an audience of their peers, faculty, librarians, and other members of the Cal community at the fifth installation of College Writing Programs' Chiang Research Festival.

The winning submission for the 2016 Art of Writing essay contest was Taj Hittenberger’s essay about familial bonds to the Russian River watershed. Taj Hittenberger was a student in Teri Crisp's College Writing 110 (Advanced Composition), for which this essay was written.
