Our courses, appropriate for both English as a Second Language speakers (ESL) and multilingual immigrant students, can be taken on campus or online.
We offer a variety of activities on and off campus that allow you to interact with students from across the program and with instructors.
After planning their schedules, students work directly with the UC Berkeley Summer Sessions Office to register and pay for courses. Visiting international students: An overview of the process is outlined on the Summer Sessions Checklist.
Students enrolled in ESL 8: English as a Second Language in Session D or ESL6: Intensive Practice in ESL in Session E are required to take an online placement exam before classes begin. Other ESL courses do not require any placement exam before classes start.
Our faculty are highly-qualified professionals with many years of teaching experience and academic degrees from the best programs in the world.

Questions concerning visas, housing, and insurance should be directed to the Berkeley Summer Sessions Office (firstname.lastname@example.org or +1 510-642-5611).
The Summer English Language Studies office is open during business hours in July and August only. Please follow the links listed above for general information.
